Where to Begin

  • Park along Tafelberg Road, near the Lower Cableway Station at the starting point of your ascent.

Trail Start

  • Table Mountain Lower Cableway Station

Trail End

  • Upper Cableway Station (descent via cable car)

  • Difficulty Challenging. Not suitable for children, dogs, or those with vertigo.

  • Start early to avoid midday heat.
  • Check the weather forecast before hiking.

  • Stay on the path.
  • Pace yourself and stay hydrated.
  • Avoid hiking in strong winds or wet conditions.
  • Be Aware: high winds may render the cable car non-operational, stranding hikers at the summit

  • Not recommended for descending Table Mountain - instead choose the cableway or alternate trails like Platteklip Gorge.
  • Alternate routes for less technical hikes are Platteklip Gorge, Kasteelspoort, Skeleton Gorge.
  • Scrambling sections are supported by chains and ladders. A guide is highly recommended for safety and navigation.
  • Avoid late starts - low light increases risk on exposed sections.
  • Check weather forecasts before hiking.
