Where to Begin

  • Park along Tafelberg Road, near the trailhead. This road runs beneath the iconic cliffs of Table Mountain and offers easy access to the hike.

Trail Start

  • Tafelberg Road trailhead.  

Trail End

  • Upper Cableway Station - we descend via the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway.

Terrain

  • Expect rocky paths and natural stone steps.
  • It’s steep yet no climbing or scrambling is required.

Route Type

  • Hike up, ride down - enjoy the challenge of the ascent, then relax with a scenic cable car ride back down.

Trail Overview

Platteklip Gorge is the easiest direct hiking route to the summit of Table Mountain.

  • Duration 2–3 hours depending on fitness level.
  • Difficulty Physically demanding but non-technical. Can be taxing on the knees
