Where to Begin
- Parking is available at the Rycroft Gate entrance to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
Trail Start
- Begin your adventure at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, one of the world’s great botanical gardens, nestled at the foot of Table Mountain.
Trail End
- We return via Nursery Ravine, descending back into the forest and finishing at Kirstenbosch once again.
- Can be extended to the Table Mountain Cableway.

Trail Overview
Skeleton Gorge is a lush and shaded ascent up the eastern slopes of Table Mountain.
- Duration 4 to 5-hour round trip
- Difficulty Moderate to Challenging (requires a good fitness level). Coming down Nursery Ravine can be taxing on the knees.
- Features Afromontane Forest, streams, ladders, and a summit walk to the Hely Hutchinson Reservoir

Notes
- The trail includes steep sections and ladders, which may be challenging for those with a fear of heights.
- Views are mostly forested, therefore less panoramic than other Table Mountain routes.
- While it doesn’t offer sweeping city views during the ascent, the summit rewards hikers with stunning scenery and a sense of accomplishment.
